George Mumford placed a notice on April 1, 1754 in at least one newspaper advertising for the return of “Four men servants, a white man and three [black men], who hath taken a large two-mast boat, … and a large white pine canoe…” He identified them as Joseph Heday, Fortune, Venture, and Isaac. Fortune and Isaac were also enslaved. Mumford offered “20 pounds New-York currency reward and all reasonable charges paid” for their return.
